Manufacturing
The factory that produces well but doesn't know what it earns
Production runs, orders go out on time, the factory seems to work well. But when someone asks which product actually turns a profit and which one just takes up line time without being worth it, nobody has a solid answer, the cost of each item was never actually calculated, just roughly estimated.
This is common in manufacturers that grew fast: the focus was always on producing and delivering, not on building detailed financial visibility. The result is a company that bills well but makes pricing, product-mix, and investment decisions without clearly knowing whether it's making money on each line or just moving volume.
Getting cost clarity per product doesn't require an expensive system, it requires deciding to measure. Once the factory knows what it actually costs to produce each item, decisions that used to be based on gut feeling start being based on real numbers, and that's when it becomes safe to scale.
