Custom Development
Why off-the-shelf software doesn't always solve what your company needs
Every company eventually faces the choice: buy a ready-made tool or build something custom. Off-the-shelf tools solve generic processes quickly, but the process that actually makes your company different from the competition usually isn't generic.
The problem shows up later: to make the specific process fit the ready-made tool, the company starts adapting the way it works to the software, instead of the other way around. In the end, the team spends energy working around tool limitations instead of solving the actual business problem.
Custom software isn't about building everything from scratch, it's about recognizing which part of the process is truly differentiating (worth investing in something of your own) and which part is generic enough to use something ready-made without friction. Consciously mixing the two is usually cheaper than picking one extreme.
